MISSION
A decade ago a few Tamil students got together and formed an association for Tamils in Carleton university. Today it has grown into one of the largest Tamil student association in the world. Over the years, our university has gained reputation as one of the foremost educational institution in the fields of high technology, journalism, public affairs and computational sciences. Year by year the number of students choosing Carleton as their number one choice has risen tremendously. We give a warm welcome to these new students and help them to get a head start in their higher education.
Annually we stage cultural events as our commitment to promote and preserve our cultural heritage. Our successful cultural events both in Ottawa and Toronto enable us to support the Tamil refugees and under privileged university students in our homeland. Sports events are most favored among our members. We have continuously invited many other cultural communities to give our members a better competing field. Recently we have increased our services to the main stream Canadian community by adding blood donation in our annual calendar.
One of the landmark accomplishment was the release of ‘Arumpukal’ CD by our own talents. The hard work of our musical director Viji Ratnavel, musical protege Siva Chockalingam, the Gunaratnam brothers and other talents from our community turned it into a blockbuster. The proceeds were donated to the Tamils Rehabilitation Organization
This year we lost an influential member in our community. Our ex-president Manimaran Kanagasabapathy pasted away in October. As a strong leader, a talented sportsman, a dedicated tutor and a caring friend he won the hearts of everyone in our community. His legacy will live on.
Carleton University Student Association has continuously worked hard to better our Tamil community in our adopted home. It is a great joy to see our people conquering the challenges and becoming leaders in their respective fields. As we say good bye to a millennium filled with memories both good and bad, we are marching into a brand new millennium with confident. Our commitment to our community and to our culture will continue.
